Space Marine Is Not A Gears Of War Clone - Joystick Division

Space Marine Is Not A Gears Of War Clone - Joystick Division: "Publisher THQ, and developer Relic, have been excellent custodians of the Warhammer 40,000 universe. I have many friends who are rabid devotees of the tabletop game which established the IP, and built up all the aesthetics and design of the 40K universe. Said friends issue nary a complaint about Relic's 40K video game titles, and full disclosure: playing the first Dawn of War inspired me to try the tabletop game for the first time. The partnership between Games Workshop and THQ works both ways -- which is ostensibly the point in GW licensing out the IP.

Space Marine, the new third-person Warhammer 40,000 action title from Relic and THQ, has drawn comparison to Epic Games' Gears of War series. The close-up, third person camera angle and rolling dives certainly are reminiscent of Gears, but that's about all Space Marine shares in common with Gears of War. Where Gears is a tactical, cover-based shooter, in Space Marine brutality wins the day, with no need to take shelter from the enemy. That's not how Space Marines roll."
